April 24, 2026 - To limit homelessness in N.O., prevention, not jail, is the answer.
At START Corporation, we know from four decades of experience that integrated, wraparound care that prioritizes both housing and health care brings tangible outcomes in keeping families out of homelessness.
Programs such as Assertive Community Treatment, or ACT, teams, rapid rehousing and permanent supportive housing, substance use treatment and veterans’ services support the whole person before a crisis deepens.
These programs are not a luxury. They are essential civic infrastructure. In the same way that we invest in roads and drainage to prevent larger structural failures, we must invest in behavioral health, housing and wraparound services to prevent challenges like those unfolding in the French Quarter.

March 3, 2026 - Better housing key to improving health outcomes
Safe, stable housing does more than provide shelter—it plays a critical role in shaping overall health and well-being. Communities facing housing instability often experience higher rates of chronic illness, stress, and limited access to care. Addressing housing quality and affordability can reduce health disparities and strengthen neighborhoods. Expanding housing solutions may be one of the most effective ways to improve public health outcomes.

October 9, 2025 - It takes all of us to help our unhoused neighbors.
In the article “It takes all of us to help our unhoused neighbors,” Casey Guidry (CEO of START Corporation) argues that addressing homelessness in New Orleans demands a collaborative, compassionate, and holistic approach. The piece outlines how START CORP has long provided case management, shelters, youth support, and housing services while now working to establish a new clinic in the former St. Jude Community Center offering integrated medical, behavioral health, dental, recovery, pharmacy, and housing support services. Guidry emphasizes that housing alone isn’t enough — health care and wraparound services are essential — and that when individuals exit homelessness, the entire community benefits through reduced strain on emergency systems and improved public safety. Ultimately, she calls on all sectors — residents, businesses, policymakers, nonprofits — to invest their effort and resources, framing support for unhoused neighbors as a shared moral and civic responsibility.
October 5, 2025 - START CORP: A Lifeline For the Underserved Across Southeast Louisiana
START CORP, founded in Houma and now operating in 18 parishes across Louisiana, provides integrated health and social services to underserved populations. The organization offers community-based mental health care, substance use treatment, case management for veterans, youth mentoring, and housing support. During crises such as Hurricane Ida and the COVID-19 pandemic, START CORP deployed emergency housing, mobile crisis teams, and outreach to fill care gaps. Under CEO Casey Guidry, the nonprofit emphasizes a “meet people where they are” philosophy and aims to expand in New Orleans with a comprehensive community health center in the French Quarter.
In a powerful guest column published by NOLA.com, START CORPORATION CEO Casey Guidry and CrescentCare CEO Alice Riener highlight how Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs) like ours are transforming lives across Louisiana. The article shares real stories of recovery made possible through accessible, trauma-informed care, and calls on Congress to secure long-term funding so this work can continue.
