Veteran Peer Support Specialist
Job Description
Assist Veterans with suicide prevention services including case management, peer support, and coordination with Veteran Affairs. Will maintain a caseload of clients in need of suicide prevention services that is conducive to recovery from mental illness and improve overall wellness. Majority of time is spent both in office and in the community to deliver services and provide resources to meet the needs of Veterans and their families through outreach, suicide prevention services, and connection to VA and community resources.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor Degree in social services or human services field OR
High School Diploma or GED and at least two years of behavioral health experience AND must be working towards obtaining the required degree.
Be over 18 years of age.
Possess a valid driver’s license
Personal experience of being a Veteran is preferred.

Knowledge of agency and community resources and referral processes.
Adheres to the Certified Peer Support Specialists Code of Ethics
Job Duties/Skills Required
Assist peers in skill building, goal setting, problem solving, and maintaining overall stability.
Will maintain a caseload of clients in need of suicide prevention services that is conducive to recovery from mental illness and improve overall wellness.
Will help Veterans build self-directed recovery tools while include supporting peers in developing an individualized service plan that has their recovery goals and specific steps to reach those goals.
Performs regular case maintenance activities including documenting actions, making narrative entries, and entering data in electronic medical record system.
Ascertains resources outside of Start Corp. when necessary to meet client's specific needs. Will coordinate with Veteran Affairs and navigate through VA healthcare and eligibility processes/requirements.
Maintains a clear driving record in order to be able to drive company vehicles to provide transportation to clients.
You may assist with projects as directed by your supervisor.
