Community Doula Support Specialist
Job Description
Start Corporation is looking for a self motivated individual inspiring to work with woman to improve their health outcomes before, during and after pregnancy and help reduce racial/ethnic differences in rates of infant death and adverse perinatal outcomes.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in nursing, public health, health promotion, health communications, psychology, social work, sociology, or counseling (Master preferred)
HS Diploma/GED or associate degree with 8+ years of experience
6 years of relevant experience in social services or 2+ years within a health or behavioral health setting.
Be over 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license
Personal experience of being homeless preferred
Experience working with clients of diverse backgrounds
Core Competencies
Commitment to the improvement of health outcomes before, during, and after pregnancy, and the reduction of racial/ethnic differences in rates of infant death and adverse perinatal outcomes.
Be willing to join initiatives to increase the availability of doulas in areas most affected by infant and maternal mortality and to increase the number of women with a high risk of poor birth outcomes receiving doula services.
Provides physical comfort techniques, emotional reassurance, comfort and encouragement, breastfeeding support, and evidenced-based informational support as part of the patient's essential care team to expectant patients and their families during pregnancy, labor, and in the postpartum period provided both virtually and in-person and based upon cultural preferences.
Conducts themselves with a manner of professionalism that is conducive to recovery from postpartum and overall wellness.
Job Duties/Skills Required
Maintains a caseload of clients with specialized needs, higher complexity, or that require specific services and/or consideration due to program requirements.
Provides supportive services for clients and arranges for the provision of services from community resources based on the case plan.
Participates in setting case plan goals/objectives. Completes case plans with clients.
Provides direct patient education to expectant women and their families.
Interviews clients, families, etc. and completes assessments and other clinical documentation.
Completes service notes within required timeframes and using approved format within electronic health records required by the program.
Performs regular case maintenance activities including documenting actions, making narrative entries, preparing necessary reports and/or social summaries, etc.
Consults with facility personnel and administrative field personnel; collects and analyzes data to identify needs for the assigned special services program within the service area.
Ascertains resources outside of Start Corp. when necessary to meet client's specific need.
Maintains a clear driving record to be able to drive company vehicles to provide transportation to clients.
